Bill and Lori's renovation

Design and project management.
This house was a typical ranch with a long train like layout and a corner fireplace that didn't work properly. I redesigned the floor plan by adding a small addition to the front of the house and removing the roof of the rear addition and reconfiguring  the gable at the same time adding a small bump out addition to the end of the room. I also removed the old fireplace and installed a new one in the center of the end wall. We removed the ceiling of the old kitchen and raised it by creating a truss. The new floor plan was cross axial and open. The installation of a two toned kitchen and Walnut floors finished the look. 
All construction work was done by Bob Davis and Michael Davis. The Kitchen was done by Kat Latyshou and the floors were install by Julio Rosas.

Earth Wind Fire and Water

The existing brick patio had no walls but did have the quarter round corners. The entire thing was overgrown. I designed the outdoor living space with the kitchen, water fountain which is lit from below for the evening hours, and the firepit on the opposite side.

Mark and Barbara's home

I have a long history with this house and a long time relationship with the owners. I have re designed the entire house bit by bit. After phase one and two, we removed the garage that was on the right side of the house, moved the house and sub-divided the lot; adding a new basement with a tunnel from the new garage, under the breezeway and into the new basement. I call the studio over the garage Fort Mark. All of the rear additions were added in phase one. The fireplace is a Rumford style fireplace and it was designed by me and I built it personally. Ron and Maureen's home

The homeowner asked me if I could "tweak" the plans that they had from another architect.  I told her that would be unethical and I couldn't do that. She asked me to look at the house anyway and I went over to see what they had. The drawings that she had, had a 3'-0" mistake in the size of the front foyer and the mistake was carried to the back kitchen area. This can happen with auto cad. Also the mudroom was on the opposite side of the house from the garage. I told her to throw away the plans and she could hire me to redesign the entire house; which we did. The Davis boys did all of the construction. Shoreline Kitchens did the installation of the kitchen. the slideshow below shows the finished product.

Garret's lakeside home

This project was mostly interior renovations. The home was owned by an architect who designed it for himself in the 1970's. One of the problems was that the architect added the upper studio loft and when he did that he disconnected the old fireplace, cut the flue and closed up the roof. The new owner wanted the fireplace to be a working wood burning fireplace. The fire place company said that it couldn't be done without removing the windows. Since the roof had a very large overhand I turned the chimney chase 45 degrees and kept it away from the building. This allowed the chase to be installed without blocking the view of the lake and allowed the fireplace to be installed in compliance with all of the codes. Also when measuring for the kitchen renovation I discovered some unused space in the walls behind the cabinets. I designed a new floor plan that took advantage of the opportunity and created a unique kitchen plan and layout. The plan was ably executed by John Goodhue's crew including Bruce Greenwood

Stan and Avis's home

The homeowner and I worked very closely on this renovation.  The design is a collaboration of  both of our visions for the project. The home is about 100 years old. The project involved removing and rebuilding the shed in the rear yard, adding a two story addition on the back and the side and adding a small dormer to increase the headroom to the attic area.  Greg Strasser did all of the masonry work. Gill Horan Construction did all of the building and finish work. Grumbach Plumbing did all of the plumbing work. Batelli Electric did the electrical work and Frank Settembrino installed all of the tile.

Bob and Kate's total renovation

I was not the first designer on this project. This house had numerous structural problems that were concealed until the demo started. The transparency below is a drawing that I did for the homeowner to show what the house would look like when the addition was finished.
