Sculpture
All of my sculpture work is started with a concept, I believe that art is a mirror of the soul of the artist. Whether my art is serious or whimsical it will tell you something about the things that I value and sometimes the things which I have little respect.
Included in this section are some jewlery pieces and rings that I made and some plaster restoration of historic buildings, which are also a type of sculpture. As far as I know I am the only one in my area with expertise in restoring plaster moldings and friezes.

Dichotomy
The official name for this piece is Dichotomy. It was partially inspired by the comments of a good and very funny friend. It is the only sculpture that I have ever done that is not inspired by something positive. This is actually a protest piece. The unofficial name for it is Code Pink. I assume that it doesn't require further explanation. The sculpture is Black Walnut and the rough hewn blades are made of Pink Alabaster. It is mounted on a black wooden base. It is for sale.

The sculpture is for sale with or without the Venetian Plaster base.
Time
According to Dr. Steven Hawking, "Time" has a shape. This sculpture was inspired by the color of the stone and also influenced by the book by Dr. Hawking, "A Brief History of Time" Although the lines in the stone look like sedimentary rock, this stone is actually an igneous rock. It is Ryolite a volcanic stone. It is similar to sandstone and limestone in texture and does not take a high polish. It is also easy to "rock face" as on can see by the lower part of the sculpture. It is mounted on a Spanish Cedar base and stands just under two feet tall. It has a fault line in the stone which makes in imperfect. With that caveat it is still for sale.
Rings
I carved these rings out of a single piece of stone. I gave them to my honey on Valentines day. They are meant to be imperfect but connected just like us. I turned the base out of a maple burl that was given to me by Bill Brooks.
Madonna and Child
When carving a piece of stone one can't really see the color or the veining until the polishing stage. I thought that it was luck that the stone changes color in concert with the forms. But perhaps it was serendipity. This sculpture is mounted on a turning base made of wood decorated with Venetian Plaster. It is for sale; serious inquiries only.
Jesus Model
This is the model for the commission for St George's by the River bronze sculpture that was installed last year on Feb. 8th.
A Modern David; front and back.
David is a part abstract and part realism sculpture inspired by the story of David. In this iteration of the classic story it is not a sling shot that is the weapon, but the power of the intellect. David is looking up and back at his adversary. He has a smirk on his face as his subtle smile suggests that he knows something that his "Goliath" can't comprehend. The fluid and powerful circular motion alludes to the motion of Bernini's David, but is actually a metaphor for the power of the mind.
David is white Alabaster and is mounted on a tall tapered stand. When completed the sculpture will slowly rotate reinforcing the concept, and allowing all sides of the sculpture to be viewed from one point. This sculpture is about 5 feet tall with the mounting base. It is for sale; serious inquiries only.

The making of St. George's by the River Jesus sculpture.
When Denise Weiner reached out to the Monmouth Musuem for a recommendation for a sculptor to create a sculpture to honor her parents, Avis Andersen, the director gave her my name. Her reaction? You mean Robin's husband? Robin and I had known Denise and her husband Mark for at least twenty years through various charity organizations, particularly the Monmouth Museum and the Women's Center which is now called 180. The experience of working with her from the initial concept to the installation and dedication was one of great satisfaction and delight. Denise made this moving tribute to her parents to document the process and the event. The music she selected adds to the beauty of the video. Enjoy.
And Now for something completely different
The following are a series of sculptures that are a little less expensive and a lot of fun. Most but not all are resin castings made from a clay model and cast from a rubber mold and then decorated with metal leaf or paint.

Denise and Danny's 25th Wedding Anniversary Bands
The concept for these rings was inspired by the fact that all of the four family members have names that begin with the letter d.
I intertwined the lower case d to create a pattern that alludes to the infinity sign. The backgrounds of all of my anniversary rings are rough and imperfect; like marriage and the commitment it takes to get to a Silver or gold anniversary. I carved the wax for the rings and had them cast by Maureen Bay of Gem of an Idea. These are white gold 14 carat. I can custom design and fabricate rings if given enough time to execute.

Robin's and My 25th Anniversary Wedding Bands
In order to create a concept for a wedding band I must understand the relationship. These wedding bands allude to our marriage perfectly. There are two parts to the rings. There is a rough hewn element that is representative of me. And there is a more polished ribbon that wraps around the rough sections holding it all together. God only knows what a mess I would be without her.
My Parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary Bands
We jokingly called my parents the lockhorns or sometimes the Bickersons. The background of these rings is made to resemble tree bark and there are two leaves circling the rings. The Oak leaf symbolizes strength and the willow leaf symbolizes flexibility; Traits that were found in both of them.
The Ladder Necklace
This necklace was inspired by two different things. The first thing was the bone chest protectors that some of the American Plains Indians wore. They were more decorative than protective but the symbolism is to protect. The second part alludes to an interesting Parlor Game called the "Secrets of the Cube" In the game one is asked to visualize a desert scene. In that scene we are to imagine a Cube; along with a ladder, horse. storm and flowers. The ladder has an important meaning in the game. Go here to play the game and find the meaning. Do yourself a favor; don't skip ahead

Slide Necklace
This is a slide that I designed and had made by Maureen Bay from Gem of an Idea.
The Wells Fargo Bank in Trenton
This historic coffered ceiling was damaged by workers working in the attic above the ceiling. It is 26 feet in the air. I had to use a one person man lift to get to the repair. This project involved repairing the coffer, making a casting of the existing to duplicate the egg and dart frieze and leaves. Also applying gold leaf and aging the leaf and matching the one hundred year old paint finish.
Bishop Hall, Rutgers University
This was a relatively easy repair to a pair of scrolls and a wrap around crown. The Pilaster had been damaged by water.
500 Navesink River Rd.
This home had several areas of severe damage to the plaster ceilings and also to the crown moldings and cast friezes. It is about a hundred years old and was well built at the time. The plaster was installed over wire lath, but the wire had rusted and disintegrated over time due to water leaks in the slate roof and the parapet walls. this slide show shows all different phases of the work.
Showcase house repair
This is a crown repair from a house that was featured as a showcase house for the VNA. The crown was damaged by a leak in the upstairs bathroom.
